Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – December 2-3, 2024: The Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) will host a Strategic Symposium under the theme “Shaping the 2025-2030 Vision: Addressing Developmental Challenges to Advance Gender Equality” at the African Union Commission headquarters in Addis Ababa. This pivotal gathering aims to reflect on OAFLAD’s journey, analyze pressing developmental challenges, and define strategic priorities for the next five years.
The symposium will provide a platform for African First Ladies’ technical advisors, policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and explore innovative solutions to key issues affecting women and children across the continent.
The two-day event will feature comprehensive sessions and in-depth discussions, including a review of OAFLAD’s 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, an analysis of current trends in health, education, gender-based violence, and women’s empowerment. OAFLAD will also be organizing a panel discussion on a new area of engagement, looking at the impact of climate, peace, and security on gender equality to further guide the next strategic plan. Participants will also explore strategies for impactful advocacy and sustainable partnerships, while a closed session with Technical Advisors and the OAFLAD Secretariat will focus on refining approaches for future initiatives.
OAFLAD remains steadfast in its commitment to championing gender equality, improving access to health and education, and combating gender-based violence. This symposium reflects a collective effort to harness innovation, strengthen partnerships, and drive impactful change in alignment with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
