The Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, will host a high-level side event on the margins of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).
Under the theme “Building Resilience for Women and Girls in the Face of Climate Change and Conflict”, the event will underscore the urgent need to safeguard women and girls’ rights in conflict- and climate-affected settings, ensuring uninterrupted access to health, education, and other essential services.
The gathering will bring together African First Ladies, Heads of State, policymakers, United Nations agencies, African Union representatives, civil society, donors, and influencers to:

Discuss the intersection of climate, conflict, and gender.

Advocate for the implementation of gender-responsive policies in conflict- and climate-affected regions

Mobilize funding and partnerships to support women-led projects.
