Across Africa, women and girls are shaping a future defined by greater agency, better access to health and education, and stronger participation in social and economic life. At the heart of this progress is Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), not only as a health issue, but as a driver of dignity, equality, and sustainable development. For decades, Africa’s First Ladies have stood at the forefront of this work, championing the health and wellbeing of women and girls across the continent.
The progress we are making
Through the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), First Ladies continue to play an important leadership role in driving meaningful gains. Maternal health systems are improving. HIV prevention is advancing. Access to family planning and reproductive healthcare services is expanding. Women are equipped with the information, services, and platforms they need to make decisions that shape their own lives.
This progress is real. It is measurable. And it must continue.
About the Campaign
#HerJourneyHerHealth follows a woman’s health journey across every stage of life, from adolescence through motherhood and into menopause and beyond. Led by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), the campaign highlights the efforts of African First Ladies in ensuring women have the tools, information, and support they need to navigate every phase of their lives.
Through storytelling, data, and lived experiences, the campaign spotlights African-led programmes and normalises conversations around SRHR. Together, we are building a future where every woman – at every stage of her life – is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
