EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN AND GIRLS WOMEN AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROJECT
The aim of this project is to empower women and youth financially and through skills development in order to eliminate poverty. The First Lady of the Republic of Zambia, through the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust, empowered sixteen (16) women clubs and three (03) Youth Clubs totaling four hundred (400) people. The women and youth clubs were empowered with 4 tons of fish.
RESULTS
The clubs sold the fish to raise start-up capital so that they could venture into businesses of their choice. From the proceeds realized, new ventures such as village banking, money lending businesses, rearing of village chickens and broiler chickens emerged. One club ventured into a car washing project and another in rice trading. These women and youths are now self-reliant and are able to take care of their families.
