Em 2002, as Primeiras Senhoras de África reuniram-se para formar a Organização de Primeiras Senhoras Africanas contra o VIH/SIDA (OAFLA), com o objectivo de serem uma voz unida para os cidadãos africanos mais susceptíveis; mulheres e crianças que vivem com e são afectadas pelo VIH e SIDA. Ao longo dos anos, a OAFLA evoluiu para se tornar uma instituição capaz de oferecer uma liderança a nível continental em termos de advocacia nas áreas do VIH e uma vasta gama de intervenções de saúde materna e infantil.
